Essence of Life

It’s autumn, the smell of wood smoke permeates the air. Oh how I love this time of year.

The tail end of the earth’s energy feels like a rush, a speeding up. The urgency to prepare for winter courses through my veins.

Excitement is building.

We have bottled fruit, tinctured herbs, gathered nuts, frozen vegetables and buried the tubers, away from harsh frosts and hungry foragers.

Now the last of the chores is almost complete.

Chop wood.

This year we have had to say goodbye to our ancient apple tree.

I shall cherish your essence as you keep me warm.

Autumn…

SONY DSC

I awoke again this morning
With the scent of Autumn in the air.
It invigorated my spirit
End of summer’s almost there.

I can feel a building of excitement
As the season’s change again
The urge to gather nuts and stores
Ready for the onslaught
Of winters wind and rain.

I usually feel a sadness
When Summer’s almost done
But I’ve had my fill of sunshine
So now  Autumn…  bring it on!

Tuesdays of Texture – My Friend and Ally

No matter how bad life gets, and sometimes it gets really tough, I can honestly say that no thing or person has ever been able to lift me back to balance quite like my dearest and most cherished friend and allynature.

This week’s contribution to Narami’s Tuesdays of Texture (de monte y mar).

Change – Seasonal Changes of the Cuillin Mountains, Isle of Skye

In response to The Daily Post’s weekly photo challenge: “Change.”

Textures of Wild Grasses

I am passionate about so many things

  • Stone walls
  • Lichens
  • Mosses
  • Wood – old, gnarled, burnt ….
  • Rust
  • Fences
  • Pylons

I think the list maybe endless!

And I love to capture images of these things, so consequently have developed a passion for photography too.

When I was in the garden earlier, I noticed that the vast array of wild grasses were now changing colour and form. Shedding their seeds to ensure their existence is continuous …..

….. and I remembered my passion for long grasses.

I could spend hours just watching and listening to them.

It is so relaxing.

So I have combined my Day 2 with my weekly contribution to Narami’s Tuesdays of Texture (de monte y mar).
