Seaweed Marooned on Textures of Pebble Beach

Whilst a sandy beach is a delight in its own way, my preference is for a pebble beach. But not just any pebble beach. It has to be one with just the right size of pebbles.

Too big and the noise of the moving sea is too deep and inwardly stirring.

Too small, the noise created is too high pitched and grates on the nerves.

But with a nice mix of medium-sized pebbles and the sound is like a symphony.

Relaxing me. Calming me. Soothing me. I can feel the shoulders lowering and my breath slowing just thinking about it.

As I sit in wonder at the soothing sounds, I am always drawn to the colours and shapes of the pebbles, the endless variety of textures and the varied temperature of the different kinds of rock.

For me this is a paradise on earth.

On the Way – Loch Lomond Lady

This image was captured on a long journey south from the Highlands of Scotland down to England. It was a long day as there were so many excellent moments for stopping and taking yet another photograph.

But this one I have cherished ever since. Whilst driving alongside Loch Lomond, the sun going down, I saw her, lying down in the water, the moon behind her, or, are they the edges of wings? She had a golden shawl adorned with a bow and still to this day I do not know if she is looking at me or looking away.

It was truly a magical moment.

Broken – Rusty Old Gate

I love broken things. I think I missed my vocation in life, I should have set up a junk yard. I can see potential uses for most things and always enjoyed the challenge of repairing something.

This old rusty gate has seen better days. It gave up the ghost of its past life a number of years ago but has been given another role – of keeping the sheep out!

I love the contrast of the rusty metal against the old stone wall with the patches of lichens to brighten it up, all set in a sea of green.

Enveloped – Somewhere in the Mist

This mystical Scottish Highland mountainside was stunted by the bubbling cauldron of mist. Somewhere, enveloped deep below the veil, the shoreline met the sea…

Forces of Nature

I have a passion for wild weather and especially spectacular cloud formations.

On a warm sunny day we were happily wandering along a deserted shore, well, apart from a few rogue sheep chomping on seaweed.

Then I noticed that the wind had begun to have a slight chill and the brightness was beginning to fade.

When I looked up from my obsessional pebble hunting, I noticed this beautifully spectacular weather front heading right for us.

So I got out my camera … then headed for the car pretty darned sharpish.

INTRICATE – Ancient Harbour Wall- Portsoy, Scotland

I simply love the complex and intricate design of this ancient harbour pier. In its days of construction (c 1600s) it must have been no mean feat to provide an effective breakwater and quay; one that could stand the test of time and the rigours of the harsh North Sea waves driven landward by severe gales in excess of storm force 9 that throughout the winter months would be a regular occurrence.

With such a need for functionality it amazes me how beautifully artistic it is. The illusion of smoothness of its form begs to be touched. The deep yellow of the lichens adding to the effect and giving the impression that the sun may be shining.
